European and international experts share their knowledge on Inherited Retinal Diseases

What is ERN-EYE?
European Reference Networks (ERNs) were created in 2017. There are 24 specialised in the different categories of rare diseases. They are virtual networks that bring together healthcare providers from all over Europe to improve the diagnosis of complex or rare diseases through a virtual clinicin particular.
ERN-EYE, which organizes this e-learning, is the reference network dedicated to Rare Eye Diseases. These diseases are the leading cause of visual impairment and blindness in children and young adults in Europe. ERN-EYE includes 29 founding members in 13 EU countries. These experts are divided into working groups according to their specialty. ERN-EYE has many missions including the training of health professionals.
Teaching on rare eye diseases
The general objective of this e-learning is to improve the knowledge about Rare Eye Diseases (RED) thanks to the input of highest European and international experts.
RED are a vast group of more than 1000 entities that lead to visual impairment and ultimately to blindness. 80% of these conditions are of genetic origin the others being mostly related to systemic and immunity dysfunctions. The field is extremely wide for clinical and scientific research. This is why ERN-EYE is launching an e-learning programme to provide access to knowledge in the field and allow students to get in touch with the most renowned European and international experts.
This first module is dedicated to Inherited Retinal Diseases.
High level training with European and international experts
ERN-EYE’s e-learning module is organised remotely and in English, which allows students to manage their learning schedule and foreign students to participate. European and international expertsare at the origin of the various videos and are available to students.
The proposed training is organised by the SFC (Service de Formation Continue) of the University of Strasbourg: a university renowned for its quality training and its quest for excellence.
The students are expected to come from a wide background with the common objective of improving their knowledge in the field of Rare Eye Diseases. Pregraduate students (ophthalmology, medical genetics, visual sciences, ….) as well as post graduates healthcare professionals (MDs, ophthalmologists , orthoptists, …) or any stakeholder willing to improve knowledge in the field (pharmaceutic industry employee, clinical research assistant or manager, …)
